Stress Reduction

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

Stress is everywhere in our modern fast-paced world. It affects every aspect of our lives, including our emotions, our relationships, chronic pain, our physical health and our ability to cope with everyday problems. I offer Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR): a set of techniques pioneered by Jon Kabat-Zinn, through his work at the University of Massachusetts’ Medical School’s Stress Reduction Clinic. These techniques combine meditation, visualization and relaxation exercises; they have been proven effective in clinical studies for stress reduction and relief of chronic pain. I completed the professional MBSR training directed by Dr. Kabat-Zinn and now offer Mindfulness techniques specifically for clients who wish to improve their responses to stress and chronic pain.

Through an integrated series of training sessions, I will help you assess your stress environment, personal stress triggers and coping mechanisms. From this assessment I will then design for you a highly individualized toolbox that will help you both identify and deal with stress as it arises throughout your day. In order to break the cycle of stress and reaction, I provide a supportive and highly individualized atmosphere in which you can initially explore the stressors in your life, understand their cognitive underpinnings, and develop your individualized responses.

Overview:

Sessions will include:

  • Mindfulness Training
  • Relaxation Techniques
  • Thought Awareness and Reframing based upon Dialectical Behavioral Techniques.

You will develop:

  • A daily stress-reduction routine;
  • A set of cognitive tools to help you more quickly identify your stress-triggering thought patterns;
  • Methods for reframing stressful thoughts;
  • Pro-social coping skills that will help you deal with environmental and social stressors.

These techniques and practices, when learned in a supportive environment, can help you greatly reduce and transform your daily experiences, help you bring increased focus to your life, and improve your ability to perform effectively in our increasingly complex world.
