Individual Counseling

Helping You Build Resiliency

There are lots of reasons to seek individual counseling: from self-improvement and growth to grappling with a loss or trauma. Counseling is a tool which can help you explore your goals, feelings, and values while also unlocking those deep and persistent habits that get in the way of one’s happiness. My work is to provide a safe and caring environment in which you can better understand yourself.

My primary concerns in individual counseling are to help you develop greater resiliency and better coping strategies, reduce stress, and, finally, form a better relationship with yourself.

Among the many types of issues I deal with are:

  • Symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression
  • Interpersonal difficulties, including feelings of isolation, difficulties forming or maintaining a relationship;
  • Bereavement and grief related to the loss of a loved one;
  • Experience with sexual assault, relationship violence, and victimization;
  • Addiction issues including drug or alcohol abuse

Dealing with Anxiety

Many of my clients suffer from anxiety. We live in a fast-paced and challenging world in which we often must juggle many, and even at times, conflictual roles. Life can easily become a struggle of competing demands and goals that leave little time for rest or reflection. I use a number of tools to deal with anxiety that you can practice with me in the security of the counseling setting. These tools include:

  • Methods to promote inner calm;
  • Ways to slow and redirect the mind away from habitually self-destructive thoughts;
  • Exercises that promote self-care while lessening the “worry brain’s reflect\”;
  • Cognitive and problem-solving tools that increase what I call the \”smart brain\” response.
